Mother nature has the supreme power to slow the pace down, quiet the streets and remind everyone of the child within.  It has been years since we have had snow like this.

The walk to the White House was quiet until the silence was broken when a friendly “good morning” was spoken.  Arriving at the White House, Pennsylvania Avenue was completely cleared with U.S. Secret Service clearly visible.

The Christmas tree lights were still on in the White House.  A couple of people were taking photos.  One even asked if I would take his in front of the White House.

A little further up in LaFayette Park an Indian family all bundled up got out of a van for a quick family photo.  The Peace House community continues its vigilant non-stop demonstration for a peaceful nuclear free world.

City life means nothing ever closes.  Yet, the snow closed everything.  Whole Foods closed.  Logan Hardware closed. MidCity Caffe closed.

CVS, the 24 hour one, stayed open for throngs of people in line with toilet paper and food.  No milk though – it was long gone.  Potato chips were being offered – buy one get one free.  One man had eight boxes of White Castle mini cheeseburgers.  Another lady had boxes of cookies.  Cell phones were ringing. People were exchanging food find options with friends at other locations.  CVS was bustling.

And, then silence.  No fire trucks, which usually fly by.  No police cars with the constant flashing lights and sirens. No idling bus out back at four o’clock in the morning.  No drunk patrons waltzing by after last call at the neighborhood bar. Just silence. Mother nature is in charge.
